THE National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released results of the May/June 2017 NABTEB examinations with 58.75 per cent scoring credits and above in Mathematics and English Language. Registrar/Chief Executive of NABTEB, Prof (Mrs) Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe, disclosed this Tuesday while briefing journalists at NABTEB’s headquarters in Benin. She said out of the total number of 57,387 candidates that sat for the May/June 2017 NABTEB examination, 33,712 candidates scored five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics and that 47,360 candidates, representing 82.53 percent, candidates scored five credits and above with or without English Language and Mathematics. Representing 82.53% in the National Business Certificate/National Technical Certificate examinations while only 1,905 candidates were involved in examination malpractice representing 3.26% of the total number that sat for the examinations. Former President  Olusegun Obasanjo  on Saturday has said that God could not  fix Nigeria  except Nigerians invite God into their lives collectively and individually. “ We have a lot of things wrong with this country, if all Nigerians are sincere. Nigeria can be fixed by God but we have to invite Him into our lives. What we have to do about this country is in our hands. “Gods grace abounds when we do not abuse it,” he said. A slim teenager in China got her entire leg stuck in a storm drain while walking and texting. The girl who is still unnamed was paying rapt attention to her mobile phone while walking down the street in Mianyang City, in southwest China’s Sichuan Province. While she was busy texting a friend, she wasn’t paying attention to the pavement and when she stepped on a drain, her slim leg went right through the bars putting her left foot in a tight wedge. A good Samaritan had to call the fire brigade before she could be rescued after a 45-minute wait. Abuja – Acting President Yemi Osinbajo will soon brief the nation on the outcome of his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in London. Etisalat has terminated its management agreement with its Nigerian arm and has given Etisalat Nigeria three weeks to phase out the brand in the country. The decision of the Abu Dhabi owned telecommunications networks resulted after the failure of  its $1.7 billion loan talks collapsed. Chief executive of Etisalat International, Hatem Dowidar said on Monday that there was no need for the brand in Nigeria after the collapse of the loan talks. Nigerian regulators intervened last week to save Etisalat Nigeria from collapse after talks with its lenders to renegotiate a $1.2 billion loan failed. Although Etisalat Nigeria, in a statement issued three weeks ago, claimed that it had repaid 42 per cent of the loan. “As at today, we can categorically state that the outstanding loan sum to the consortium(of banks) stands at $227m and N113bn, a total of about $574m if the naira portion is converted to US Dollars. This in essence means almost half of the original loan of $1.2bn, has been repaid.

China’s president, Xi Jinping, has called on  G20  members to champion an open world economy, strengthen economic policy coordination and forestall risks in financial markets, Reuters reports. Citing the Chinese state news agency Xinhua, Reuters said Xi also urged member states to follow a “multilateral trade regime” amid concerns over mounting protectionist pressures, including from Donald Trump’s US administration. “We must remain committed to openness and mutual benefit for all so as to increase the size of the global economic ‘pie’,” Xi was quoted as saying. The world’s economy was still troubled by deep-seated problems and faces many uncertainties and destabilising factors, he added.  Xi had already offered a vigorous defence of globalisation and signalled Beijing’s desire to play a bigger role on the world stage at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January.

At least ten Egyptian soldiers including a colonel were killed in a suicide bomb attack on an army checkpoint in northern Sinai, security sources said. The dead included a high-ranking Special Forces officer, Colonel Ahmed el-Mansi. Another 40 fighters were killed in a subsequent gun battle with soldiers at the checkpoint, an army spokesperson said on Friday. The attack started when a suicide car bomber rammed his vehicle into the checkpoint at a military compound in the southern Rafah village of el-Barth, followed by heavy gunfire from dozens of masked fighters on foot, officials said. The dead included a high-ranking Special Forces officer, Colonel Ahmed el-Mansi, and at least 20 others were wounded in the attack. Sirens of ambulances were heard from a distance as they rushed to the site of the attack.   Why the term slay queen is derogatory?              I do not know what the word slay queen means and one cannot support what you do not understand. The words slay queen is not in the dictionary. A lot of people may use the term without understanding what it means. I wouldn’t blush if someone addresses me as a slay queen that is not what I want to hear. Calling me that objectifies me so, I do not want to be addressed as such.        On beauty queens being referred to as prostitutes It makes me sad. But I think that is a stereotype beauty queens have had to deal with because most beauty pageants focus more on the beauty part. But with Miss Nigeria, it’s different. Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped the Registrar of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi - Uku , Mr. Collins Onyenwenu , along Ugiliamai / Onitcha - Ukwani Road, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state. ____ It was learned that on Saturday evening, he was intercepted by gunmen. King Sunny Ade is the undisputed king of juju music, the dance-inspiring hybrid of western pop and traditional African music with roots in the guitar tradition of Nigeria. ___ Although he's yet to equal the success that he enjoyed with his early-'80s albums and American tours, Ade and his band, His African Beats, continue to weave an infectious blend of electric guitars, synthesizers and multi- layered percussion. The former Newcastle United player Cheick Tioté has died aged 30. __ Tioté collapsed during a training session with the Chinese League One side Beijing Enterprises on Monday. He was subsequently rushed to local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
